7:30-7:35 Soft Start (We encourage parents and students to aim for 7:30. This time is used for getting unpacked and settled. It is a fairly unstructured time so the children will have time to socialize, share stories with me and get ready to focus for the day.)
7:35-7:45 Journaling (Students will reflect on lessons/social emotional growth/home life, answer a question, or free write depending on the day)
7:45-8:00 Morning Meeting (During this time we share something about ourselves, do social emotional work, reflect on our classroom culture, and review the lessons/standards for the day.)
8:00-8:50 Specials
8:50-9:30 Shared Reading (This time will vary from day to day. Close reading includes word work, vocabulary and comprehension strategies and will be done 2-3 times per week. Drama will be used during this time to enhance comprehension and build vocabulary.)
9:30-10:30 Writing Workshop (This time will be used for both writing content, conventions and mechanics instruction)
10:30-10:45 Brain Break
10:45-11:30 Social Studies/Science (This time will be used for science observations, arts integration projects, Colorado maps, time lines and economics)
11:30-12:20 and 1:00-1:20 Math
12:20-1:00 Recess/Lunch
1:20-2:20 Guided Reading, Book Clubs (Differentiated based on reading level), Spelling Center, Response to Reading (close reading questions and reflection to drama)
2:20-2:30 Read Aloud/daily reflection (Used for modeling reading comprehension and vocabulary strategies)
